About Us

The Independent Electrical Contractors, Inc. (IEC) was formed in 1957, with the goal of uniting independent electrical contractors into a national unified force. Today, IEC represents over 3,000 merit shop electrical contractors and over 100,000 company employees.

As an organization, we operate at four different levels: the local chapters, state associations, regional chapters, and the national headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. These different levels have allowed our organization to form local electrical apprenticeship and training programs, organize at the state and national levels to fight against legislation that serve as obstacles for electrical contractors, and ensure the future success of our industry.

The IEC - El Paso Chapter was formed in 1968 by a small group of local electrical contractors. Their goal of supporting contractors and industry affiliates was realized in 1984 when the chapter became officially recognized by IEC.

I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I just knew I loved math. My IEC teachers were great. In 9 months I learned a lot.
